I’ve seen the ocean, quiet in the midnight moonlight; I’ve seen splendid views from mountain tops mild enough for me to climb, but neither completes with the startling beauty of geyser snow.
On a bright, cloudless, sunny day its appearance can surprise and delight. So fine that it can float on the slightest breeze; it escapes as steam from thermal features and crystalizes in air cold enough to freeze it in the brightest sun. The combination of the daylight reflected from the white world of winter and the mist of fine snow settling around you from seemingly nowhere reinvents the meaning of the word “pretty”.
Best viewing: Yellowstone National Park, Old Faithful, winter – deep.
