Love thy neighbor's as thine own

27 March 05

I have been reading about Hemingway’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. The setting is the Spanish Civil War; a civil war that took place in the 1930`s and had to do with the differences of Fascism from Communism. From the perspective of Democracy today, it all seems moot . I’ve always loved the phrase “Columbus discovered America”, it makes me want to go next door and discover my neighbors house; I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, and I could really use it – the things we do with history!
We write histories for ourselves it seems, and it makes me wonder what history will do with the last week or so; this week will leave its mark I think. We will see who the heros are a year from now.
