I’m finding that this is already getting complicated in my head, so I’ll start with categories already in place. I’m not sure who started the things I’ve done lists, but this one was inspired by Peter Moulding of 4-EVER, in case anyone feels the need to blame someone for getting me started.
Things I’ve done that go to ego:
*Spent 60 days under water(numerous times).
*Sailed a submarine tender into a typhoon.
*Sailed a Fast Frigate thru the Straits of Malacca.
*Discovered that native Guamanians were once cannibals.
*Climbed Diamond Head in Hawaii.
*Ran 38 shots in a game of pool, and lost a “2 turns at the table” game to 50.
*Learned to cook spaghetti.
*Skied over ten miles cross country.
*Lost three dixie cup sailors hats to the weather in under an hour.
*Lost three dixie cup sailors hats to Australian women in under 30 minutes.
*Was unexpectedly awakened by a live rock band in my bedroom.
*Grew my hair long before it was the thing.
*Cut my hair after the first airing of the Mod Squad.
Things I’ve done to make a living:
*Wore a helmet, flack jacket, and carried an M-14, to a performance by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
*Targeted nuclear weapons.
*Ran an ancient telephone switchboard for the graveyard shift.
*Told an intoxicated football team that they couldn’t use the hotel pool after 10PM (the tip was good, but the uniform was wet).
*Painted grass green.
*Stood in the pouring rain in full dress uniform for over 20 minutes off the coast of Africa.
*Programmed a computer that looked like a bent dinner plate.
*Ran my own business at the age of nine (with a little help from Mom).
*Interpreted English on a Japanese destroyer.
*Skied to work.
*Drove a cab with a man in the back with a claw hammer.
*Drove a big yellow school bus full of weapons and sailors thru L.A.
*Tracked targets with a radar that had handle bars.
*Polished bowling balls.
*Lost a clipon tie to a garbage disposal while washing dishes.
*Assembled sliding glass doors.
*Lived thru deep water escape training.
*Polished 1000s of cars.
*Sold vacuum cleaners.
*Scooped ice cream for 5 cents a go.
*Sailed a Fast Frigate north of the Arctic Circle.
*Ate a cherry out of a belly button.
Things amusing for all other than myself:
*Screwed the basketball hoop to the backboard thru the top rung of the ladder.
*Allowed both thumbs to be tightened into a vice.
*Broke my great toe with a bowling ball.
*Slept under my car to get out of the rain because the doors were locked and the keys inside, just to discover the seats were wet because the windows were open.
*Locked my necktie in a safe door.
Things I indulge myself:
*Never let the truth interfere with a good tale.

Our eldest daughter has a list going of things she wants to do. One of them is ride a motorcycle and the other night following an evening with friends one of them said, Hey, how about I take her home on the bike. He did. She loved it. I, as a dad, was happy because she crossed it off her list.
Only thing is, now she has an additional item on the list; own a motorcycle.
thrive!

I have a great love for riding motorcycles, it is an unsatisfied love because I have found over time, and luck, that I am indeed not responsible enough, nor attentive enough on a motorcycle to be safe either for myself or other people. The images of how motorcycles are to be ridden differ for the better now, when I was growing up folks just weren’t taught to be safe on them, or safe around them.

“Things amusing for all other than myself” – LOL! Brilliant!
We almost have one thing in common, Rick. I almost sold a vacuum cleaner!
BTW, I think there’s something wrong with your RSS feeds. I haven’t seen any for a long time till this morning when there were 10 listed but I couldn’t access them.

Re biking. Lots of over-50s here in UK have seen their families grow up and leave, so are taking to biking again but buying big powerful bikes. Their reactions aren’t the same any more and there are lots of cases of them running straight off the road at bends etc. Glad to see you don’t have their overconfidence or foolhardiness, Rick.

Hmm? haven’t made any changes to the feeds for quite a while. I use atom so I didn’t notice, but the rss doesn’t seem quite as it should be. Guess it’s time to get up to 4.0.2 TXP on theantic

Bloglines has been a bit funny lately but only that I sometimes have to click a link twice before it loads.
The 8th Grade Math was the last article I saw ‘normally’.
I’m sticking with 4.01 for now cos of a problem with titles on 4.02

I was using a set of scripts downloaded from the development branch (1002) that were scrambling some text (quotes mainly) in older articles, so I figured it was time.
