I spent a recent morning watching the prong horns and shooting some photos. It took me back a couple of years to a visit to the Toledo Zoo. A nice enough place for a zoo, but I couldn’t escape a sense of deep sadness. I remember most the way the rhino looked – all that power stranded on a small lump of dirt.
These shy and curious creatures are the antithesis, they have their own 2.2 million acre park to wander.
I wonder at the usefulness of a zoo, and even more at the sheer delight that some are able to take at what they have entrapped there. I think I like seeing freedom better, even if it may kill and eat you one day.
